ekr CON 600 net – Process Data Exchange via Profibus 19/79
2.3.6 GSD File
The properties of an Profibus device are described by the device
manufacturer in a GSD file (General Station Description). The GSD
file is an electronic device data sheet (device master data file). It
contains a description of all relevant data which are important for
project planning as well as for data exchange with the IO-Device.
The language used for the GSD file is GSDML (GSD Markup Lan-
guage) - an XML-based language.
During commissioning, the provided GSD file for the ekrCON600net
controller must be imported into the corresponding configuration
tool of the control system in order to enable the customer control
system (Profibus master) to communicate with the web guiding con-
troller (Profibus slave) via the Profibus interface module.
The required GSD file for the use of the Profibus interface module
can be found on the documentation CD of the ekr CON 600 net
web guiding controller or in the internet. Simply scan the adjoin-
ing QR code with your smartphone. The generated link will lead
you directly to the required file.
The procedure for loading the GSD file depends on the type of the
customer control system used. An example may be found in
chapter Adding the GSD File to the Product Catalog, page 69. For
further information on loading the GSD file please refer to the
technical documentation of the control system manufacturer.
