The preferred means of isolation is to install a gate or butterfly valve to isolate individual exhaust
ducts from the common header. Gate valves can provide a zero leakage seal and be operated
while the other turbines are running.
An acceptable means of isolation is to include a flanged joint in the exhaust duct as a location to
install a blind plate during long term non-operation. Blinding operations cannot be performed while
exhaust duct is still hot. Be aware that heat from operational turbines may limit the ability to install
blind during operation.
