7.4. Transformer Requirements
7.4.1. Transformer Applications
A voltage transformer for the microturbine is required if the circuit voltage is outside the 400 to
480 V
AC
range.
All Grid Connect mode installations with transformers between the microturbine and the grid —
point in the distribution grid where the voltage is 6 kV or higher — must consider maximum grid
impedance. Proper sizing of transformers in the installation is required to limit the impedance
seen by the microturbine. Refer to the input impedance calculation in paragraph 7.4.3.
7.4.2. Transformer Sizing
The sizing recommendations in Table 13 are provided for any installation requiring a transformer.
For Stand Alone or Dual Mode installations with multiple microturbines, it is
required to parallel all microturbines on the 400/480 V side. If transformers are
required, then these should be tied at the 400/480 V at different points so that
the current capacity of the 400/480 bus bar is not exceeded by any segment.
