Inspection and Adjustment
1. Check the alternator belt for the
correct tension with a belt tension
gauge as shown in the illustration.

2. The correct tension for a new belt
is 140 to 160 pound force (623 to
712 Newtons) for a used belt is 90
to 120 pound force (400 to 534
Newtons).
3. If the tension for the alternator belt
is not correct, loosen the strap bolt
and the pivot bolt. Turn the
adjusting bolt counterclockwise to
loosen or clockwise to tighten the
alternator belt.
