5.19.9 Setting the Adjustment
The piston stroke of the Xplorer pipettes can be changed by the user in the Adjustment
option. Instead of the "factory settings" adjustment, you can select a different adjustment.
Instructions on performing the adjustment can be found in the document Adjustment on
our webpage
www.eppendorf.com/manuals.
If a different adjustment has been selected instead of factory settings, the display header
shows the symbol and at least another symbol. Before changing an adjustment, make
sure to read the chapter "Display" and the document "Adjustment"
www.eppendorf.com/manuals.
The following adjustments can be selected:
Factory settings
Resets the adjustment to the factory setting. The factory settings cannot be changed.
Liquid type: Ethanol 75%
The factory setting is changed by a factor in order to allow 75% ethanol to be
dispensed with higher accuracy. The internally used factor takes into account the
density and the following work technique in the Pip mode:
1. Wet the tip with liquid three times at room temperature. Hold the pipette vertically
during this time. Avoid outer wetting during dispensing.
2. Use speed level 5 for aspiration and dispensing.
3. Dispense liquid against the tube wall of the destination tube.
4. Trigger a blow-out (Blow) approx. 2 seconds after dispensing. Then eject the pipette
tip.
Liquid type: Glycerol 50%
The factory setting is changed by a factor in order to allow 50% glycerol to be
dispensed with higher accuracy. The internally used factor takes into account the
density of the 50% glycerol and the same work technique as described previously for
Ethanol 75% in the Pip mode.
Making an adjustment sets the dispensing volume in such a way that
systematic error is minimized for the intended application. Carry out a
gravimetric test of the adjustment.
Every pipette whose adjustment has been changed must be marked with a
clearly visible label that indicates the type of change made. This ensures that
other users will be informed of the changes to the adjustment, in addition to
the information provided in the header of the display.
You can overwrite a selected adjustment by selecting another adjustment.
The applicable symbols for the new adjustment will be shown in the display
header.
For the Xplorer plus, the adjustment can be protected with a password.
