20.6 Summary of Cleaning Products and Procedures for Elite Hematology
Analyzers
There are two types of cleaning products:
• System cleaning products: these are detergent or enzyme- based solutions and are connected to
analyzers all times.
• Non-system cleaning products: these are bleach-based solutions and are used for decontamination or
thorough cleaning of the analyzer. They are external cleaners and can be used for daily usage and/or
for emergencies.
Cleaning recommendations
1. Daily – the analyzer must be cleaned at least once either with a system or non-system cleaner as part
of a daily cleaning procedure (Note: for daily cleaning of the analyzer the recommended daily
cleaning reagent should be used).
2. As needed – when the system has an aperture blockage or is exhibiting a high cell background, the
system should be thoroughly cleaned with a non-system bleach-based cleaning reagent – e.g. Erba
Hypoclean or Erba Hypoclean CC.

Remarks:
Erba Hypoclean and Erba Cleanz are additional reagents. These are only connected to analyzer in case it is needed.
The reagent which has a connector on three part instrument normally is Erba Cleaner.
Erba Clenz is an enzymatic cleaning solution for removing any lipids, protein sludge from the system.
This can be used as daily cleaner solution as well, connected like Erba Cleaner (Elite 3).
The recommendation is to use this solution as daily cleaner (connected instead of Erba Cleaner) only in case of daily high
workload.
Erba Hypoclean is a < 9% hypochlorite solution for cleaning purposes. It should be used in case of massive dirt, dried blood
etc. in the system. You can use it in vial and run cleaning cycle from software.
