2.11.3 DETERMINING THE TOTAL PRESSURE DROP (TPD)
The maximum Total Pressure Drop (TPD) value for any Fike Pre-Engineered System is <100>. Systems with a
TPD of 100 or less are acceptable designs that will discharge in ten (10) seconds or less, therefore meeting the
performance criteria required by NFPA 2001, Section 3.
The Total Pressure Drop (TPD) value is determined as described in the following paragraphs.
2.11.3.1 PIPING LAYOUT DIAGRAM
A piping isometric or layout diagram is often desirable when determining the TPD value for a Pre-Engineered
System. The diagram should be labeled to provide identification points (junction numbers) for each pipe segment,
however, the designer will determine the TPD value for only one nozzle
. Because two and four nozzle system
configurations are balanced, when the designer determines that one nozzle will perform as required, the
remaining nozzles will discharge similarly.
