6.5 APL valve
Adjustable Pressure Limit valve.

APL
The APL valve is mechanically regulated by
means of the APL knob, i.e it is not regulated
using any of the control panel touch pads. It
is only active during manual ventilation and
can be set between spontaneous breathing
(= fully open) and 80 cmH
2
O.
Turning the valve clockwise increases the
pressure.
At values above 30 cmH
2
O, an increased
tactile resistance can be felt and a slight 'click'
heard at every 5 cmH
2
O interval.
The set value of the APL valve (it is not an
active touch pad) is displayed at the
bottom-left of the screen:

6.6 Volume reflector
The re-breathing function in FLOW-i is
supported by the volume reflector. It functions
as a reservoir of exhaled gases, allowing the
partial re-administration of these to the patient
via the circle system.
The main difference compared to traditional
anesthesia systems is that the volume reflector
acts as a rigid reservoir with no moving parts.
This allows for the administration of large tidal
volumes, as well as the use of low fresh gas
flows.
The volume reflector volume is approx. 1.2
liters.
