Flow Cell Maintenance
Clean the Fiber Optics in the
Flow Cell
(Adjustable Pathlength
Flow Cell Only)
The adjustable pathlength flow cell
(part number 14100010) has a
rod-shaped fiber optic instead of a
concave lens.
To clean the fiber optics in the flow cell:
1 Turn detector off and disconnect
power cord.
2 Remove the flow cell:
a) Hold the flow cell securely with
your hand, and then unscrew
the knurled-head screws of the
cover plate.
b) Slide the carriage of the flow cell
holder away from the detector.
3 Pull the flow cell toward the front,
and then lift the flow cell up and out.
4 Loosen the threaded ring using
the Allen wrench included with the
flow cell.
5 Remove the stainless steel cover.
6 Use a tweezers to remove the fiber
optics and PTFE seal together.
7 Grip the fiber optics and push
them out.
8 Separate the PTFE seal from the
fiber optics as it should be
replaced when cleaning the fiber
optics.
9 Clean the fiber optics with a clean,
soft cloth, or with an appropriate
solvent in an ultrasonic bath for a
minimum of 10 minutes. Make
sure that the clean fiber optics are
not touched by fingers.
10 Assemble the new PTFE seal and
fiber optics and then push them
back into the cell. Make sure that
the new PTFE seal does not
interrupt the light path.
11 Insert the PEEK spacer.
12 Insert the stainless steel cover.
13 Use the Allen wrench to carefully tighten the threaded ring. When tightening the threaded ring, the
rod-shaped fiber optics is pushed into the correct position in the cell
