Chapter 6. Installing the Library
To install a desktop or rack-mounted TS3400 Tape Library, perform the procedures in
this chapter in the order they are presented.
Choosing a Location
Choose a location that meets the following criteria:

Criteria Definition
Room temperature 16 to 32 °C (60 to 90 °F)
Voltage 100 to 240 Vac.
Note that the power switch is located on the rear of the library and
must be easily accessible at all times.
Frequency 50 to 60 Hz
Relative humidity 20 to 80% non-condensing
Air quality The library should be placed in an area with minimal sources of
particulate contamination. Avoid areas near frequently used doors and
walkways, stacks of supplies that collect dust, printers, and
smoke-filled rooms. Excessive dust and debris can damage tapes and
tape drives.
Clearance • Back: Minimum of 15 cm (6 in.)
• Front: Minimum of 30 cm (12 in.)
• Sides: Minimum of 5 cm (2 in.)
Rack requirements Standard EIA 19-inch rack: 5U space
