Before Working on Equipment
Before beginning work, become familiar with the location of the:
•Main Switch
Power source connection
All drive units and all hazardous voltages must be switched OFF.
Proceed with extreme caution if the system cannot be switched off at the main switch
because of required work (for example, functional checks).
Normal Operating Mode
In normal operation, the host controls the Tape Library.
Emergency Operating Mode
Emergency operations are meant for:
Manual inserts and retrievals of media
Manual operation of the drives
Sharp Edges on Tape Drives
3592-E05 tape drives with the following serial numbers may have burrs or sharp
edges in the areas that are highlighted in Figure 5-1. When working with tape drive
canisters, carefully handle the sheet metal case and cover of the canister and the
canister side spring to avoid injury.
Serial numbers that begin with 1300507xx
Serial numbers that fall within the range of 780051001 to 780055824
Serial number 780090065
