Notch function
The IC-7851 has Auto and Manual notch functions.
• Auto notch: Used in the SSB, AM, or FM mode
• Manual notch: Used in the SSB, CW, RTTY, PSK, or
AM mode

Auto notch function
The Auto notch function uses DSP to automatically at-
tenuates beat tones, tuning signals, and so on, even if
they are moving.
Push [NOTCH] several times to select “AN.” 
• Pushing [NOTCH] toggles the Notch function “AN” (Auto
notch), “MN” (Manual notch), and OFF.

” is displayed when Auto notch is in use.

Manual notch function
The Manual notch can be set to attenuate a frequency
by rotating the [NOTCH] control.
Push [NOTCH] several times to select “MN.” q
• Pushing [NOTCH] toggles the Notch function “AN” (Auto
notch), “MN” (Manual notch), and OFF.
• “
MN
” is displayed when manual notch is in use.
• Hold down [NOTCH] for 1 second to toggle the manual
notch filter width between “WIDE,” “MID,” and “NAR.” Af-
ter selecting, the filter width value is displayed for about
1 second.
Rotate the [NOTCH] control to manually attenuate w
a frequency.
While tuning the manual notch, noise may be heard.
This comes from the DSP unit and does not indi-
cate an equipment malfunction.
