2 Safety
2.1 Electrical safety
Both the Matrix rack unit and the canister must be connected to mains protective
earth. Any interruption of the mains earth conductor will make the units dangerous
to use.
Opening either Matrix units will expose live parts. Disconnect power before
opening, allow at least 5 minutes for internal capacitors to discharge before opening.
The subsea cannister is to be connected to a fuseprotected power interface.
Recommended fusesize on 110VAC is 16A.
If it is required to apply power to an open unit this must only be carried out by skilled personnel
who is aware of the hazards involved.
High voltage: When activated, subsea connector C12 will relay the input voltage
provided to the subsea unit (85-260VAC or 120-370VDC).
2.2 ESD precautions
Both the Matrix topside unit and the canister contain ESD sensitive components. Generally, the
units should only be opened by skilled personnel in a controlled environment. If opening these
units, ESD protective measures according to " IEC 61340-5-1: Protection of electronic devices
from electrostatic phenomena General requirements" must be followed.
2.3 Pressure canister
If there is any indication that there might have been a water leakage in the one-
atmosphere housing great care must be exercised during opening as there may be
an over pressure inside the pod. Bleed of the pressure by carefully removing the
Swagelok cap with great caution.
