2 System Architecture
IPG Remote Scanning heads are designed to be used in a number of different applications. The following
sections outline common system architectures that IPG remote processing heads are used in.
2.1 Scanners with an IPG Scan Controller
Figure 2-1 details the basic system architecture when using an IPG Scan Controller. The basic system is
composed of the following components:

Scan Head:
o Houses the galvo mirrors and beam shaping optics (collimator, field flattening lenses,
etc.)
Scan Controller:
o Houses all electronics, including controller board, galvo driver boards, etc.
o Available for Mid-Power and High-Power Scanners
Windows PC & Windows PC software:
o Builds galvo trajectories and laser control based on laser type and scanner configuration
o Software provided with purchase of scanner.
o Computer purchased separately.
Laser source:
o IPG laser sources: YLS, YLR, YLP
o Sold as a separate line item from scanner
