Thebatterycells must be handled correctlyinordertoensure proper and  safe
use.However, ifmistakesare made inhandlingthe cells, causing explosionor
venting,theuserhastobeequippedsoastobeabletofacethisemergency.The
aimofthissectionistoadequa
telytraintheuseronsafehandlingofthecellsthat
havebeensubjectedtoextremeconditionslike:
1 Hotcells
2 Cellsthathavereleasedsubstancesorvented
3 Explodedcells
4 Fireenvelopingthelithiumbatteries
12.18.1.1.Personalprotectiveequipment
Whenrechargingthebatterypackandduringanyothermaintenanceoperation
onthebatterypack, itisnecessar
ytouseatleastthe PersonalProtectiveEquip‐
ment(PPE)listedbelow.
12.18.1.2.Procedureforhandlinghotcells
Assoonasithasbeenestablishedthatthetemperature ofacellhasrisenconsi‐
derably,thefirstactionistheevacuationofpersonnelfromtheaffectedarea.The
