3.8 Frequency Modulation (FM)
Introduction
A modulated waveform consists of:
A Carrier Waveform Shape
A Modulating Waveform
In FM, the frequency of the carrier is varied by the instantaneous voltage of
the modulating waveform.
For more information on the fundamentals of Frequency Modulation, refer to
the Tutorial chapter.
FM Characteristics
The 81150A / 81160A will allow only one modulation mode to be
enabled at a time. For example, you cannot enable FM and AM at the
same time. When you enable FM, the previous modulation mode is
turned off.
The 81150A / 81160A will not allow FM to be enabled at the same
time that sweep or burst is enabled. When you enable FM, the sweep
or burst mode is turned off.
