2.17 Setting the Duty Cycle of a Square Wave
At power-on, normally, the instrument outputs the same setting as before
power-down.
The duty cycle is limited by the minimum pulse width of Wmin.
This means the duty cycle can get as low as (100% * Wmin/period) and as
high as (100% * (1 –Wmin/period))
81150A: Where Wmin is either 4.1ns or 10ns depending on the selected
amplifier (See section Amplifier Type Selection).
81160A: Where Wmin is 1.5ns.
The following steps show you how to change the duty cycle to 30%.
Select the square
wave function
Press the key and then set the desired output frequency to any value
up to 120 MHz for the 81150A (330 MHz for the 81160A).
Press the “Duty
Cycle” softkey
The duty cycle represents the amount of time per cycle that the square
wave is at a high level.
Enter the desired
duty cycle
Using the numeric keypad or the knob, select a duty cycle value of “30”. The
81150A / 81160A adjusts the duty cycle immediately and outputs a square
wave with the specified value (if the output is enabled).
