1.1 Functional Overview
The CX950 is an access/switching device with multiple ports that accept
incoming transmissions from multiple links and output the transmissions to the
appropriate end-user destinations. Refer to Figure 1-2.
The functions and capabilities of the CX950 system are controlled primarily by
the motherboard and the software residing in its memory. The motherboard can
support up to eight I/O cards.
The I/O cards provide connectivity to protocols and services, such as analog
voice, fax, legacy data, and LAN on the user side, and WAN protocols, such as
ATM, X.25, ISDN, and Frame Relay, on the network side. The I/O cards also
provide the port connectors that physically connect the CX950 to the user and
network devices.
