MOTHERBOARD
The CX950 Motherboard holds all integrated circuits and other components
required to achieve LAN/WAN interoperability.
The Motherboard contains eight expansion slots that house the I/O cards which
can support a wide range of protocols and technologies including ATM, T1/E1,
legacy, Frame Relay, Token Ring, Ethernet 10BaseT, Fast Ethernet, voice, FAX,
and ISDN.
Actions taken by a given I/O card in relation to the protocol and traffic of the
network it communicates with, as well as in relation to other cards within the
CX950, are controlled by a CPU on the Motherboard.
Components of the CX950’s Motherboard are organized into three functional
areas:
• processing section
• input/output section
• power section
Figure 3-1 illustrates the physical placement of components on the Motherboard.
A functional block diagram of the Motherboard is provided in Figure 3-2.
