3.1 Processing Section
3.1.1 CPU
The PowerPC 603e, located at U30, is a high performance RISC microprocessor
featuring high instruction and data throughput, and a system bus clock speed of
65.536 MHz.
3.1.2 Bridge/Memory Controller
The MPC106, located at U34, acts as the interface between the central processor
(PowerPC 603e), the L2 cache, the main memory, and the PCI bus.
3.1.3 Communications Controller
The MC68MH360, located at U17, is a Quad Universal Integrated
Communication Controller (QUICC) containing four serial communication
controllers (SCCs) which serve card slots 1 to 4. The device operates at
32.768MHz.
An additional QUICC is required when serial I/O cards are installed in slots 5 to 8.
This QUICC is located on the Serial Expansion Module (SEM) which is a plug-in
card inserted into a 144-pin SODIMM connector on the Motherboard.
3.1.4 Memory
Table 3-1 summarizes the basic and upgraded memory configurations that can be
installed on the Motherboard.
