TERM DEFINITION
RIGHT HAND SIDE
Convention; the right hand side means the right side of the carriage as seen from the
driver's seat of the truck.

MANUFACTURER
Natural person or legal entity that designs and/or builds a machine or a quasi-machine
covered by this directive, and is responsible for conformity of the machine or of the quasi-
machine with this directive for purposes of placing it on the market under its own name or
brand or for personal use. If there is no manufacturer as defined above, the manufacturer
is considered the natural person or legal entity that places on the market or commissions a
machine or a quasi-machine covered by this directive.
INCLINOMETER Device that measures inclination.
BACKWARDS Convention; the term backwards means the reverse running direction of the truck.
USE AND
MAINTENANCE MANUAL
Set of information provided by the supplier of a product to the user containing all the
necessary provisions for communication actions to be carried out for safe and efficient
product use.
MAINTENANCE WORKER
Technician qualified to perform the routine maintenance operations described in this
manual.
JACK Hydraulic piston used to move the platform or stabilize it.
MULTITEL Manufacturer's distinguishing trademark.
HARMONIZED STANDARDS
Technical specifications adopted by a standardization body, or the European Standardization
Body (CEN), the European Committee for Electro-technical Standardization (CENELEC) or
the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), within the framework of a
mandate issued by the Commission in compliance with the procedures set up by directive
98/34/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 22 June 1998, which provides
for an information procedure in the sector of technical standards and regulations and of
rules pertaining to services to the information society and not binding in nature.
AUTHORIZED WORKSHOP
Company organization consisting of one or more skilled technicians authorized by the
Manufacturer to carry out extraordinary maintenance and repair jobs.
OPERATOR Person trained and instructed in the use of the PLE.
OPTIONAL Optional on request. May not be installed on the platform
CLOCKWISE
Convention; clockwise means the direction of rotation, precisely clockwise, intended when
looking at the platform from above.
DANGER! A potential source of injury or damage to a person's health.
EXPOSED PERSON Anyone who is standing entirely or in part in a dangerous area.
LOADER DECK Top surface of the carriage; it is the surface to which the slewing pin is secured.
PLATFORM MULTITEL machine described in the manual intended as the whole of all its parts.
ELEVATING WORK PLATFORM As an acronym, PLE is a machine aimed at accessing elevated work positions.
POSITIONING Operation through which the carriage is levelled by means of the outriggers.
SEALS
They consist of steel wires secured by lead seals. They are used to signal any tampering
with the machine.
