Troubleshooting
Particle Measuring Systems engineers have selected components, materials, and
design elements that provide high reliability as well as superior function. Anything,
however, can eventually fail. This chapter is for those times when something
unexpected happens and you don’t know how to proceed.
NOTE:
If the troubleshooting tips do not solve the problem,
call Instrument Service and Support at Particle Measuring
Systems: 1-800-557-6363.
A. When you press the printer soft key, or when a sample is completed, paper
does not advance from the printer.
If the Lasair II particle counter does not produce a printed strip of paper, try the
following steps:
1 Ensure that there is a roll of paper in the paper enclosure.
2 Ensure that the paper roll is free to rotate within the paper enclosure.
3 Ensure that the end of the paper roll is not stuck to the roll.
4 Remove the paper roll in the roll enclosure then position it with the end of the
roll coming toward you from the top of the roll.
5 Hold about one inch (2.5 cm) of paper against the case above the paper cutter
and then close the paper enclosure cover.
6 Test the printer by pressing the Print soft key.
B. Paper advances from the printer, but nothing is printed on the paper.
Make sure the paper roll is installed properly. Thermal paper will not print on the
back side.
If the paper is installed correctly but there is no print on the paper, call Instrument
Service and Support.
C. You do not hear a tone when the particle counter is started.
