Codes can also be verified without a structural verification. To do so, the field "No" is activated in the
structural verification selection. This is also the factory setting.
HIBC is the abbreviation for "Health Industry Bar Code." HIBC describes a standard for a special
application of a service provider, first of all, and second of all a standard for identification in a supplier
label for the healthcare industry.
In both cases, the HIBC code begins with a "+" character, followed by a specified data structure.
The REA ScanCheck 3n verifies whether the "+" character exists and whether the verification character
is correct.
It is planned that later software versions will also additionally verify the data structure.
In the case of Code 39 in postal applications, it is advisable under certain circumstances to activate the
UPU verification (Universal Postal Union).
The 1st and 2nd characters of the code serve as an indicator of the related postal service. With
verification activated, it is determined whether the value is permissible.
The 3rd to 10th characters form a serial number. In the verification it is determined whether 8
characters are included and the first character is numerical.
The 11th character is a verification character formed according to Modulo 11.
In verification it is determined whether this character is correct.
The 12th and 13th characters form the ISO country code with which the origin of the shipment is
specified. It is verified whether the country code is valid.
4.6.3.3.6 Code 39 – Full ASCII - Additional Verification Criteria
Code 39 Full ASCII
The selection of Full ASCII changes the decoder to Full ASCII mode. Additional small
letters and special characters are encrypted therein with code character pairs. Small
letters and special characters are only decrypted and depicted upon decoding if this code type is
selected.
With selection of the ANSI function, the verification of the ratio between the narrow and wide code
elements is converted from the ratio values specified in the ISO standard to the values specified in the
ANSI standard. ANSI allows a ratio from 1:2.5 to 1:3.0 if the module width equals less than 0.5 mm.
The ISO standard always allows a ratio between 1:2.0 and 1:3.0.
Upon activation of the verification character function, a verification character verification is made on
standard code 39. The verification character is thereby verified according to Modulo 43. If this function
is not activated, no verification character verification is made.
4.6.3.3.7 PZN Codes - Additional Verification Criteria
PZN Code uses the normal Code 39 symbology, but with several restrictions. With the PZN Code, a
pharmaceutical article number is depicted for use in retail pharmacies. PZN is the abbreviation for
‘Pharma Zentral Nummer’ (Pharma Central Number).
Verification of the verification character is specified as mandatory and cannot be deactivated.
The PZN Code always stars with a "*" as an initial character, followed by a dash "-" and followed by a
