4.6.3.3 The Code 128 Family
4.6.3.3.1 GS1-128 - Additional Verification Criteria
The GS1-128 Code (previously EAN 128) is a special form of Code 128 in which a special data
structure is applied. This was specified by the GS1 Global organization. The REA ScanCheck 3n can
also verify these special data structures and several additional properties of this code type.
According to the GS1 specifications, the allowable module size - according to the
respective application areas - can be limited.
The standard setting is the group "All sizes" with a permitted module width of 0.495 mm to 1.016 mm.
The other two size settings can each be arranged in the case of bilateral agreements and company-
internal applications.
The activation of the structure verification enables the expansion
of the code verification to compliance with the data structures specified by GS1. The standard preset is
the incorporation of the verification. <EAN> is activated. In some special cases of company-internal
application, the structural verification does not make sense under certain circumstances and can be
deactivated here. Adjustment <No> activated.
4.6.3.3.1.1 Verification of Application Identifier
The GS1 specifications also provide for the use of five application identifiers (AI):
(11) Date of production (YYMMDD)
(12) Due date for an amount on a receipt
(13) Packaging date (YYMMDD)
(15) Best before date (YYMMDD)
(17) Maximum best before date or date of expiration (YYMMDD)
If this data is to be verified for compliance, the data verification can
be activated by marking the box. If the data verification is not
activated, only the correct format within the code data structure is
verified, not compliance with the data overruns.
The identifiers AI 11 and AI 13 have a positive and a negative
offset. Identifiers AI 12, 15 and AI 17 have only two positive
offsets. There it is possible to enter an upper and a lower date
value in the future (see example below).
