4.6.3.3.9 ITF-14 Code - Additional Verification Criteria
ITF-14 Code is a special form of 2/5 Interleaved Code with several additional restrictions and
specifications and GS1 data structure.
A bar code reader cannot automatically differentiate between these two code types. For that reason,
only one or the other code type can be activated in the presets (either 2/5i or ITF-14).
In the GS1 General Specifications, the allowable size ranges for ITF-14 codes are specified - identical
to those in the cast of GS1-128 Code. Correspondingly, there are also three different application areas
for this code type with different allowable code sizes:
Internal logistics (X-module widths from 0.25 mm to 0.495 mm)
General distribution (X-module widths from 0.495 to 1.016 mm)
All Sizes (X-module widths from 0.25 mm to 1.016 mm)
The targets and thresholds are identical to those of Code GS1-128.
The factory preset for the additional verification criteria is "General distribution."
ITF-14 Code normally encodes the GTIN with a leading 14th character.
4.6.3.3.10 2/5i Code - Additional Verification Criteria
2/5i Code was developed in order to obtain codes with a higher
coding density; that is, many characters in a small space.
For this reason, this code type continues to find wide use.
With activation of the selection box "verification character," verification of the verification character
according to Modulo 10 or for the bill of lading of the German Postal Service is activated.
With selection of the 'ANSI' box, the ratio verification switches back and forth from the ISO standard to
the ANSI standard.
In the case of ANSI, size ratios between the narrow and wide bars between 1:2.5 and 1:3.0 are
permitted if the module width is under 0.5 mm.
The ISO standard allows ratios of 1:2 to 1:3 in any case and without the restrictions as with ANSI.
This code can only be selected if ITF-14 Code is not activated (see above).
