4.6.3.3.11 Plessey Code - Additional Verification Criteria (Not Yet Available in the
Current Version)
Plessey Code is a purely binary code type and was defined in
1971. It is used today particularly in library applications. Plessey
Code and MSI Code are similar code types, whereby Plessey
Code uses different start and stop characters and contains 6
additional characters.
Plessey Code allows for three different sizes with the following
nominal character distances:
0.635 mm (narrow), 0.787 mm (medium) and 1.02 mm (large).
If "automatic" is selected, the REA ScanCheck 3n calculates
the deviation to the next standard size.
The use of two different stop characters is permitted for Plessey
Code: One is used if the code may only be read from left to right.
The other is used if the code is approved for bidirectional reading.
4.6.3.3.12 MSI Code - Additional Verification Criteria
MSI Code is a purely binary code type and is used in the
BeNeLux countries for encoding article numbers in the
pharmaceutical field.
Plessey Code and MSI Code are similar code types.
MSI Code is purely numerical. Each character consists of 4 binary
elements. The coding is comprised of the start character and up to
15 utility characters, one or two verification characters and a stop
character.
The size definition of the MSI Code can be made as module width.
Plessey Code does not permit this and can only use a "pitch" as
size information.
