4.8 Function test of the MSS 3RK3 Basic

Step Action Result
1 Switch on the power supply. The safety relay executes a self-test.
2 Choose "Edit" > "Check consistency". If no message is displayed in the output window, the
test was successful.
3 Choose "Target system" > "Load to switching device" and
con󹪝rm the memory dialog with "Yes".
The "Save switching device as" dialog box opens.
4 Save the project. The "Load to switching device" dialog box opens.
5 Set the communications interface through which you
have access to the device (e.g. COM1) and con󹪝rm with
"OK".
The con󹪝guration data is now downloaded. A message
is displayed on completion of the download.
6 Con󹪝rm with "OK". You are now online in con󹪝guring mode.
7 Choose "Target system" > "Test mode" and con󹪝rm the
message "Activate test mode" with "Yes".
The "Change password for test mode" dialog box opens.
8 Assign a new password and con󹪝rm it. The default pass‐
word is 0000.
The MSS 3RK3 changes from con󹪝guring mode to test
mode.
Testing the functions
The MSS 3RK3 can be switched to "test mode" so that the full function test can be conducted.
Outputs of function elements can be forced in this operating mode.
You can create printouts of the con󹪝guration to help you in the function test by choosing "Target
system" > "Prepare con󹪝guration test".
Step Action Result
1 Check whether the EMERGENCY STOP has been un‐
locked and the protective 󹪝eld of the ESPE is free.

2 Press the Start button. -
3 Press both buttons of the two-hand operator panel si‐
multaneously.
The contactors QA and QB pick up.
4 Press EMERGENCY STOP. If the two-hand operator panel is pressed again, contac‐
tors QA and QB do not pick up.
5 Unlock the EMERGENCY STOP and press the Start but‐
ton.
The "EMERGENCY STOP" function element is acknowl‐
edged.
6 Place a suitable object in the protection zone of the
ESPE.
If the two-hand operator panel is pressed again while the
light curtain is interrupted, contactors QA and QB do not
pick up.
