CHAPTER FIVE
CLUTCH
This chapter provides complete service
procedures for the clutch and clutch release
mechanism.
The
c1U1ch
is
a
wei
multi-plate type which
operates immersed in the engine oil.
It
is mounled
on the right-hand
end
of
the
transmission
mainshaft. The inner clutch hub is splined to the
mainshaft and the
outer
housing
can
r
Ola
te freely
on
the
mainshaft.
The
outer
housing
is
geared to
the crankshaft via the primary drive gear.
The
clutch release mechanism
is
mounted with-
in
the right-hand crankcase cover and is operated
by
the clutch
cab
le and hand lever mounted on the
left-hand handlebar. This type
of
clutch does
require routine adjustment as the cable does streich
with
use, refer to Chapler Three for adjustmcm
pr~edures.

4. Reinstall the cap nuts and washer onto the
engine front mounting

Remove the bolts (

4) securing

ter cover on the right-hand crankcase cover.
7. Remove the oil filter cover: don't lose

ring (Fi

5) on the cenler inner surface of
the cover. Don't lose the
O-ring

al
in
the cover.

Remove the oil filter (
Figure
6) and place
it
in
a plastic bag to keep the oil from running out
of
it.
9. Remove the exhaus! system as described under
Exhaust System Remomlllllstallat;ofl
in
Chapter
Seven.

. Remove the bolts securing
the
clulch cover

Figure
7).
