worn
to
the service limit dimension or greater.

Install a new gasket on the oil ga

plug and
install the plug (
Figure
269) into the righi-hand
crankcase half.
14.
Inspect the speedometer drive shaft steeve for
wear or damage. Rep
la
ce the O-ring scal (
Figure
279) if worn or deterioration. replace
if
necessary.
15.
In
spect the spee
dom
eter drive shaft and
gear
(Figure 280) for wear or damage. replace the drive
s
haft
if
necessary.
Crankcase Bearing and Oil Seal
Replacement
1.
Turn the crankshaft, transmission and shift
drum bearings (
Figur
e 272)
by
hand. Check for
damaged races and ball
s.
Replace the bcar
in
g(s)
if
it
has excessive side play (
Figure
273).
If
the
bearin
gs
are o
ka
y,
oi
l the races and ba
ll
s with fresh
engine oil.
If
necessary. replace the bearings as
follows.
2. To remo
ve
the old oil seals, perform the
following:
a.
Pry out old oil seals (
Figure
281) with a sma
ll
screwdri
ve
r, taking care n
ot

damage the
cra
nk
case bore.
b.
If
th
e o
il
seals are old and hard to remove. heat
the cases as described in
Step 4.
c.
Use an awl to punch a small hole in the steel
backing
of
the seal.
CAUTION
Do not ins/ali the screw too deep
or
it
may contact and damage the bearing
behind
it.
