LEFT -HAND CRANKCASE COVER
AND DRIVE PULLEY
1. Rem ove the seat as desc ribed under Seal
R emomll lnSlallatiQn in Chapter Twel ve.
2. Remove the left-hand frame cover.
3. Di sconnect the banery negati ve lead ( Figure
114),
4. Disconnect the alternator's 3-pin electrical
co nn ector ( Figur e 215 ) containing 3 ye ll ow wires
from the vo lta ge regu lator l ocate d on th e rear
fender.
5. Drain the engine oil as described under £/lg;lIe
Oil and Filter Change in Chapler Thr ee.

Prior /0 rem ol'in8 the shift rod arm
from the gearshift shaft. ceruer pllneh
an alignmem mark on th e end of Ihe
shaft aligned with the split in lh e shift
rod arm. This will assure proper
alignment during in stallation.
6. Re move the bolt and nut (Figure 216) securing
the ge arshift lever to the shift shaft. Remove the
lever from the shirl shaft. Move the shifllever out
of the
way.
7. Remove Ihe bolls ( Figure 217 ) securing the
drive pulley guard
and remove the guard.
