Removal/Installation
I. Remove the seat as described
in
Chapter
Twelve.
2.
Remove the fuel tank
as
described in Chapter
Seven.
3.
Remove
th
e frame left-hand side cover.
4.
Disconnect the battery negative lead (Figure 9).
5.
Disconnect
th
e
hi
gh voltage lead (A. Figure 20)
from the spark plug.
6.
Remove
the screws securing the ignition coil (C.
Figur
e 20) to the frame.
7.
Care
full
y pull the igni
ti
on coil away from t
he
frame and disconnect the prima
ry
elect
ri
cal wires
(B, Figure
20) from
th
e
co
il.
8.
Install
by
reversing these removal steps. Note
th
e
fo
.
ll
owing during installa
ti
on.
9.
Make sure a
ll
elect
ri
cal connections are free
of
corrosion and are
ti
ght.
Ignitor Unit Testing
Complete testing
of
th
e ignitor unit requires a
special
Suzuki tool and should
be
tested
by
a
Suzuki dealer. If the signal generator a
nd
the
ignition coils are
wo
rking correctly, then
th
is
si
mpl
e test ca n
be
run.lO
check if the ignition unit
is
wo
rking.
CHAPTER
EIGHT
The dealer
wi
ll
either test
th
e ignitor
un
it with
the special tool or perform a
"re
m
ove
and replace"
te
st
to see if
th
e ignitor unit is
fau
l
ty
. This type
of
test is expensive to perform
yo
urself. Remember
if
yo
u purchase a new ignitor unit and it does
not
sol
ve
yo
ur panicular ignition system proble
m,
you
cannot retu
rn
the ignit
or
unit f
or
refund. Most
motorcycle dealers w
ill
II
o t
ac
cept returns on any
electrical compon
en
t since
th
ey
co
uld be damaged
i
nt
ernally even though they look okay exte
rn
a
ll
y.
Make sure a
ll
connec
ti
ons between the various
components are clean and tight.
Be
sure that the
wiring
co
nnectors a
re
pu
shed together
fi
rmly to
help keep out moistur
e.
