6. Inspect the slots ( Figure 20 ) in the clutch outer
hou si ng for cracks. nicks or galling where they
come in co ntact with the friction disc tabs. If any
severe damage is evidenl. the housing mu st be
replaced.
7. Inspecl lh e grooves (A, Figure 21) in the cl ut ch
hub for cracks. nicks or galling where they co me
in contact with the friction disc tabs. If any severe
damage is evidenl. the hub mu st be replaced.
8. Inspect the inner splines (B. Figure 21 ) in the
clutch hub f or crac ks. nicks or ga lling wh ere th ey
come in contact with the trans mi ssion shaft. If any
sev ere damage is evident. th e hub mu St be
re pl aced.
9. Inspect the grooves and st uds in the pressure
plale ( Figure 22). If either shows signs of wear
or galling, the pressure pl ale should be replaced.
10 . Inspect the gear teeth (F igur e 23) on th e clutch
outer hous
in g for damage. Rem ove any small nicks
wi lh an oilstone. If damage is severe, Ihe clulch
outer housi ng muSI be replaced. Also check Ihe
teeth on Ihe primary drive gear ( Figure 24) on Ihe
cranks ha fl: if damaged, Ihe drive gear may also
need replacing.
