Installation
1.
I
nSla
ll a new
va
l
ve
stem as follows:
n.
Insert the new valve stem into the rim.
b.
I
ns
la
ll
the
nut
and tighten with your fingers
only.
Do
nOI use pliers and overtighten the
nut
as
it
may
distort the rubber grommet that could
ca
use an
air
leak.
c. Hold onto the nut and install and tightcn the
locknut securely.
2.
Carc
fully inspect the tire
fo
r any damage.
cspecially inside.
3. A new tire may have balancing
rubber
s inside.
These are not patches and should not be disturbed
or removed.
4. Lubricate
bo
th beads
of
the tire with
so
apy
water.
5.
When installing
th
e tire onto the rim. make sure
th
e direction arrow
(F
igur
e 28) faces the direction
of
wheel rotation.
6.
If remounting the old tire. align the mark made
in
Step
1.
Remoml with the val
ve
stem.
If
a n
ew
tire is being
in
sta
ll
ed.
align the colored spot ncar
th
e bead (indicating a
li
ghter point on the
ti
r
e)
with
the
va
l
ve
stem.
7.
Place the upp
er
bead
of
the tire into the
cen
ter
of
the rim. The l
ower
bead should go outside
of
the rim (
Figure
29). Work around the tire
in
both
directions (
Figur
e
30
). Use a tire iron for the last
few inches
of
bead (
Figure
31
).
8.
Press the
upper
bead into the rim
oppo
si te the
va
lve stem. Pry the bead into the rim on both sides
of
th
e initial po
in
t w
it
h a tire iron. working around
the rim to the
va
lve (Fig
ur
e 32).
CHAPTER NINE
9.
Check the bead on both sides of the tire for an
even
fit
ar
ound the rim.

. Bounce the wheel several times. rotating it
each time.
Thi
s will force the tire beads against
the rim flanges. After the tire beads are in
co
ntact
with the rim evenly. inflatc the tire to seat the
bead
s.
II.
Pla
ce
an
innatable
band
around
the
circumference
of
the tire. Slowly inflate the band
until the tire beads are pressed aga
in
st the rim.
Inflate the tire enough
to seat
it
. deflate the band
and remove it.

tire and relubricate the rim and beads with soapy
