When purchasing
new
pads. check

compound

the new
pad
is compalible
wilh Ihe disc material.
Rem
ol'l' any
roughness
from
the backs
of
Ihe new
pads wilh a fine-clIl file: wipe them
clean with a lint-free clorh.
9.
When new pads arc
in
stalled in the caliper. the
master cylinder brake fluid level
will rise as the
caliper piston is repositioned . Perform the
following:
a. Clean the top
of
the master cylinder orall dirt
and foreign mauer.
b.
Remove the screws securing the cover
(F

4). Remove the cover and the diaphragm from
the master cylinder and slowly push the caliper
piston into the
caliper. Constllntly check the
reserv
oir
to make sure brake fluid docs
nOl
overflow.
Remove
fluid,
if
necessary, before
it
ovcrnows.
c. Thc pistons should move free l
y.
If
they do not
and thcre is evidence
of
them sticking in the
cylindcr. the caliper should be removed and
serviced as described in this chaptc
r.

. Push the caliper piston
in
all the
way
to allow
room for the new pads.

If removed. install the anti-ran

spring

S) into the caliper.

In
stall thc outboard pad (Fig
ure
6) into the
caliper.

stall the inboard pad (
Figur
e 7) into the
caliper.

. Push both brake pads down
againstthc
anti-
rattle spring and install the pad bolt through both
pads and screw it into the
other
side
of
the caliper
assembl
y.
Tighten it only finger-tight at this time.

. Install the brake caliper assembly onto the disc.
being careful not to damage the leading edge
of
th
e
brake pads.

stall the caliper mounting bolts. lockwashers
and
wa
shers and
ti
g
ht
en to the torque specification
li
sted
in
Table
I.

Tighten the pad pin bolt to the torque
specification listed in
Table
I.

Place wood block(s)
under
the engine and the
frame to support the bike securely with
th
e front
wheel
off
the ground. Spin the front whecl and
