alternator rotor bolt. Rotate the engine clochvise.
as viewed from the left-hand side. until the engine
is

on the

stroke.
Align the groove on the end
of
the alternator

otor
with the notch
in
the alternalOr cover (Fig-
ur
e 69).

With the groove aligned with the notch. jiggle
both rocker arms and make su re

have free
play.
If
one rocker arm is sti
ll
under tension. rotate
the engine an additional
180
" until both rocker
arms have free play.

Recheck that the groove on the end
of
the
a
lt
ernator rotor is
al
igned with the notch
in
the
a
lt
ernator cover.

. Pull up on
th
e actuator lever assembly (A. Fig-
ure
70) and check the end length
of
the shaft. The
actuator shaft should move out
of
the body 3-5
mm
(0
.1
2-0.20 in.). This amount
of
free play
is
necessary for the decompressor to operate
correc
tl
y.
12. If the free play is not correct, perform the
foll
owi
ng
:
a. Loosen the locknut (
B.
Figure 70) on each side
of
the cable bracket.
b.
Move the cable adjust
er
(C.
Figur
e 70) either
up
or
down until the correct amount
of
free
play is achieved.
c. Tighten both locknuts and recheck the free
pl
ay.
Readjust
if
necessary.

adjuster covers. replace
if
necessary. Insta

both
covers and tighten the bolts securely.

seal on

timing

e cover on the left-hand crankcase cover
and

ghten securely.
