3.8 EXERCISING AT A CONSTANT HEART RATE (CHR)
At the end of the workout, the equipment
switches to the cooling down mode. This is
when you can insert the Smartkey* to save
the results.
If you have used the heart rate meter (chest
band) during the workout for at least 3
minutes, the Performance Index (P.I. see
section 3.10) will appear on the display at
the end of the workout:
P.I. = 6
3.8 Exercising at a constant heart rate (CHR)
This function lets you perform variable training programs with constant adjustments to the
effort level according to the defined heart rate: the device automatically adjusts the workout
parameters so that the heart rate is brought to the selected value and then kept there for the
duration of the workout.
The CHR system is thus a useful tool for programming specific workouts.
Exercising at a constant heart rate is highly important in all those situations where, for safety
reasons, specific heart rate levels must not be exceeded (e.g. persons with heart disease
and seniors). It is also important in weight loss aerobic training programs, where the heart
rate must remain below 70% of the maximum value (see section 2.5.2).
During this workout, you must use the heart rate meter (chest band).
With the equipment
in Standby,
press the CHR
function key.
The display will show:
AGE = 0
key in your age (e.g. 30) with the number
keys and then press ENTER.
The display will show:
WEIGHT-LBS = 0
key in your body weight (e.g. 165) then press
ENTER.
The display will show:
HEART RATE (135-155) = 0
