1.Whenusingamaintainablebattery,useBatteryChargeLevel(page6–32)
todeterminethebatterychargelevelfromthespecicgravityofthebattery
cellsoropencircuitvoltage.
2.Usethemanufacturer'sbatterychargerinstructionsorBatteryChargeRate
(page6–33)todeterminethechargingtimeandrate.
CAUTION
Chargingafrozenbatterycancauseexplosionandcancause
personalinjury.Letthebatterywarmto15°C(60°F)before
connectingtoacharger.
•Chargethebatteryinawell-ventilatedplacetodissipatethe
gasesproducedfromthecharging.
•Thesegasesareexplosive;keepopenameandelectrical
sparkawayfromthebattery.Donotsmoke.
•Inhalingthebatterygasescancausenausea.
•Unplugthechargerfromtheelectricaloutletbeforeconnecting
ordisconnectingthechargerleadsfromthebatteryterminals.
3.Followthebatterychargermanufacturer'sinstructions,connectthecharger
cablestothebatteryterminals.Ensurethatyoumakeagoodconnection
4.Chargethebatteryfollowingthemanufacturer'sinstructions.
5.Whenusingamaintainablebattery,occasionallycheckthetemperatureof
thebattery-electrolyte.Ifthetemperatureismorethan52°C(125°F)or
theelectrolyteisviolentlygassingorspewing,lowerthechargerateor
temporarilystopchargingthebattery.
