LOWER UNIT
Gear oil
1. Check:
● Gear oil
Milky oil → Replace the oil seal.
Refer to “Lower unit leakage check”.
Slag oil → Check the gear, bearing,
and dog.
2. Check:
● Gear oil level
Low → Add oil to the proper level.
3. Replace:
● Gear oil
Replacement steps:
● Tilt up the outboard slightly.
● Place a container under the drain
plug 1.
● Remove the drain plug, the oil level
plug 2 and then drain the gear oil.
● Place the outboard in an upright posi-
tion.
● Add gear oil through the drain hole
until it overflows at the oil level hole.
Recommended gear oil:
GEAR CASE LUBE (USA) or
Hypoid gear oil, SAE 90/
API GL-4
Total amount:
670 cm

● Install the oil level plug and then the
drain plug.
