Inasynchronizationnetwork,synchronizationnetworkconnectionsthatcan
transportdifferentsynchronizationlevelstransmitssynchronizationinformation.Each
synchronizationnetworkconnectionconsistsofoneormoresynchronizationlink
connection(s),EachsynchronizationlinkconnectionisprovidedbyasynchronizedPDH
trail,SDHmultiplexsectiontrail,orIEEE802.3physicalmediatrail.
Partialsynchronizationtrailsignalcontainacommunicationchannelthatcantransmit
theSSM,TM,orESMCofthequality-levelidentier.Thisquality-levelidentiercanbe
usedtoselecttheinputreferencesignalofthehighestsynchronizationlevelfromasetof
nominatedsynchronizationreferences.
IEEE1588
IEEE1588,alsoknownasthePTP,isaprotocolforfrequencyandtimeofdaydistribution,
whichisbasedontimestampinformationexchangeinamaster-slavehierarchy,,whereby
thetiminginformationisoriginatedatagrandmasterclockthatisusuallytraceabletoa
PRCorUTC.
SimilartoNTP,PTPnonethelessoffershigheraccuracy,withHW-basedtimestamping
supportandfractionalnanosecondprecision.
