Installing the ODUspe Lightning Surge
Suppressor
This section describes installation of a suppressor at the building-entry end of the
ODUspe cable.
The suppressor is fitted with RJ-45 sockets for direct termination of the ODU and
jumper cables.
The ODUspe is fitted with an internal lightning surge suppressor.
Installation of a suppressor at the ODU end of the cable is not
required.
Installation of the lightning surge suppressor in the ODU cable just
prior to building exit is always recommended. At sites where there
is a history of lightning strikes and resultant equipment damage, the
lightning surge suppressor MUST be installed - and installed
correctly - with a direct ground wire connection to the master
ground bar. Failure to do so may invalidate the Aviat warranty.
Similarly, where a surge suppressor is required by the site owner or
by local regulations, it MUST be installed.
If circumstances do not permit recommended or required installation practices, a
solution should be confirmed with the Aviat help desk or approved installation
company.
For more information on recommended installation practices for lightning
protection, refer to Aviat Networks “Best Practices Guide”.
6 If the height of the cable on the tower exceeds 50 m, install additional
cable grounds at not more than 25 m intervals.
