S REGISTER MEANING
16 Test in Progress
S Register 16 contains the number of the &T test command in progress.
If no test is in progress S16 is 0.

S REGISTER MEANING
18 Test Timer
S Register 18 contains the length of time, in seconds, that the modem will
perform tests initiated with any of the &T commands.
You can terminate any test by issuing an AT&T0 command, or by
allowing the time in the Test Timer to expire.
Placing a value of 0 in S Register 18 disables the Test Timer, forcing you
to use an AT&T0 command to terminate tests.
