BATTERY INSTALLATION AND
CONNECTION
1. Place the fully charged battery in the mounting position,
terminal side to the rear of motorcycle.
2. Hook rubber strap around body of battery.
CAUTION
Connect the cables to the correct battery terminals. Fail-
ure to do so could result in damage to the motorcycle
electrical system. (00215a)

Connect positive (+) battery cable first. If positive (+)
cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable con-
nected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explo-
sion, which could result in death or serious injury.

CAUTION
Do not over-tighten bolts on battery terminals. Use rec-
ommended torque values. Over-tightening battery termi-
nal bolts could result in damage to battery terminals.

3. Insert fastener through battery positive cable (red) into
threaded hole of battery positive (+) terminal and tighten
fastener to 72-96
in-lbs
(8-11 Nm).
4. Install terminal cover boot.
5. Insert fastener through battery negative cable (black) into
threaded hole of battery negative (-) terminal and tighten
fastener to 72-96
in-lbs
(8-11 Nm).
6. Apply a light coat of petroleum jelly or corrosion retardant
material to both battery terminals.

After installing seat, pull upward on front of seat to be
sure it is in locked position. While riding, a loose seat can
shift causing loss of control, which could result in death
or serious injury. (00070a)
