Adistanceguidelinetargetsaplanarobject(e.g.the
ground).Therefore,ifathree-dimensionalobjectwithan
overhangisapproaching,inparticularatlowdistance,the
distanceoftheoverhangisnotdisplayedproperly.
Thepictureprovidesanexample.Themachinegetsrear-
ward,andapproachesanobjectatadistance(L)ofabout
1m(3.3ft):onthedisplay,theoverhang(C)oftheobject
appearsalignedtotheposition(B)ontheground.Actu-
ally,theposition(B)onthegroundisbeyondtheoverhang
(C)oftheobject:theoverhang(C)isratheralignedtothe
position(A)ontheground.Therefore,thereisariskof
collisionbetweenthemachineandtheobjectifthema-
chineisbackedreferringtotheposition(B).
