      Wesley DudleyAug 14, 2025
A flashing PWR or Status LED on your Comtrol Switch indicates that the bootloader has not downloaded to the DeviceMaster. To resolve this: 1. If applicable, remove the NS-Link driver. 2. Ensure you have the latest driver from http:// downloads.comtrol.com/dev_mstr/rts/drivers/. 3. Install the latest driver and configure the DeviceMaster using the MAC address. Reboot the system after.

Why does my Comtrol Switch DeviceMaster continuously reboot when connected to some Ethernet switches?
    • J
      Jeremy ButlerAug 21, 2025
The continuous rebooting of your Comtrol DeviceMaster Switch when connected to some Ethernet switches is often due to the Spanning Tree Algorithm (STA), an L2 bridging feature. To resolve this, you can try the following: * Disable STA in the switch. * Enable STA fast forwarding on the port. * Change the STA Forward Delay and Message Age to minimum time values. * On the device, set the time-out value to 0 (to disable loading of SocketServer) or 120. The command from the redboot prompt is 'Timeout 120' without the quotes.

How to fix 'Cannot ping or connect to the Comtrol Switch DeviceMaster'?
    • S
      Stacy McmahonAug 25, 2025
The default IP address of the Comtrol DeviceMaster Switch may not be accessible if your network doesn't use 192.168 due to subnet masking. You will likely need to program an address that matches your network. To do this, use PortVision DX to program the IP address. See Configuring the Network Settings on Page 38.

      Michael SmithAug 31, 2025
The continuous rebooting of the Comtrol Server when connected to certain Ethernet switches is due to the Spanning Tree Algorithm (STA), a L2 bridging feature enabled by default in some switches. To resolve this: disable STA in the switch; enable STA fast forwarding on the port; change the STA Forward Delay and Message Age to minimum time values; or on the device, set the time-out value to 0 (to disable loading of SocketServer) or 120 using the command “Timeout 120” from the redboot prompt.

How to fix Comtrol DeviceMaster PRO when I cannot ping or connect to the DeviceMaster?
    • M
      Michael LaraSep 3, 2025
If you cannot ping or connect to the Comtrol Server DeviceMaster, the default IP address may not be accessible due to subnet masking from another network, unless 192.168 is used in the network. In most cases, you will need to program an address that conforms to your network. If you don't use the NS-Link driver to program the IP address, you have 15 seconds to disable the Bootloader with Redboot to access the setup utility. Refer to RedBoot Procedures on Page 75 for the Redboot method of programming an IP address.
