Model 574 Programmable Counting System (PCS)
242 - GSE Scale Systems
gaining access to the inside of the unit. The
sample platter at the upper right hand side of
the unit offers this capability.
3. Remove the sample platter. On the Underside
of the unit in the area adjacent to the sample
platter is an allen screw which is used to hold
the platter in place. Remove this screw
carefully making sure it doesn't strip the
threads. (some units will have a standard pan-
head screw). Retain these pieces for later use.
4. Included in the kit is a one scale suspension
spider, part number 44-25-29575. Mount this
to the side of the loadcell finger tight
(important for future steps) for easy adjustment
during installation. The spider is mounted to
the load cell on the side opposite the cell cable.
Two threaded holes are on this side. The spider
should be positioned at the opposite side of the
load cell mounting flange. Use the two 8 mm
mounting screws (GSE PN: 38-26-8080).
5. Place the foam rubber positioning ring around
the 4" diameter hole to the entrance of the
multi-scale area.
6. Before inserting the load cell into the unit,
connect the load cell cable to the connector on
the multi-scale card (J4). This is a keyed
connector. Route the excess cable inside the
unit away from the spider. Towards the other
internal load cell is OK.
7. Earlier options will have a shim to be located
under the mounting flange on the load cell
bracket. Place this shim at the bottom of the
unit having the two holes in the chassis
showing through the two holes in the shim.
Ignore this step if the shim is not available in
the kit.
8. Position the load cell into the hole making sure
the cable side is towards the inside of the unit.
Make sure the bracket's flange is towards the
keypad and the spider is facing up. Position the
two holes on the flange over the two holes on
the bottom of the chassis.
9. Align the arms of the spider with the foam
rubber positioning ring. The arms should be
evenly positioned to the edge around the
positioning ring. This task generally will have
to be repeated after the cell is mounted.
10. Bolt the load cell to the bottom of the chassis
relatively tight. (not final tightening). Run the
12 mm screws with the oversized washers
through the bottom of the unit, through the
shim (if applicable), into the load cell mounting
flange.
11. Ensure that the spider arms are not binding on
the foam rubber positioning ring. If they are,
the spider should only be finger tight as stated
in an earlier step which will allow for easy
adjustment. Without bending the spider legs,
adjust the spider bracket so the spider legs are
on the same plane as the edge of the hole. This
can be accomplished by using the thumb and
index finger to rotate the spider bracket until its
in the desired position. Do not apply a force
directly to the spider legs. Apply the force to
the center of the bracket where the legs
converge.
12. Remove the cell and bracket by releasing the
mounting screws on the chassis. Once removed,
securely tighten the spider bracket to the load
cell. Re-install the load cell to the chassis.
Finger tighten the load cell into position.
Determine if the spider is properly leveled. If
not repeat the necessary steps to do so.
Securely tighten the loadcell to the chassis
when the positioning is acceptable.
13. Remove the foam rubber positioning ring and
save.
14. Carefully put the black rubber circular cover on
the spider. The four hole cutouts should be
positioned at each leg.
15. Attach the scale platter to the spider. Each
spider foot should be positioned in outside ring
at the under side of the platter.
NOTE: Enable the sample scale at parameters P101 thru
P104 which ever applies. Follow the same calibration
procedure for the sample scale as with the first scale.
Make sure all scale setup parameters are defined.
ie. Scale 2 setup at parameters P120.XX thru
P129.XX.
