5.3 Setting up FTP and DHCP Servers (For Network
Administrators)
TheproceduresdescribedpreviouslyinthischapterrequirethatanFTPserverisavailable
fromwhichtodownloadtheHN4000systemsoftwareandthataDHCPserveris(optionally)
availabletoprovideanIPaddresstotheHN4000.TheFTPservercanrunonthesamesystem
astheDHCPserver
ortheserverscanbeondifferentsystems.
5.3.1 Setting up an FTP Server
HatterasNetworksprovidessystemsoftwarefortheHN4000switchaspackagedreleases.
Whenyoureceiveasystem‐software release(eitheronaCDorfromaHatterasNetworks
server),youmustloadthesoftwareontoanFTPserverthattheHN4000switchcanaccess.
Takethefollowinggeneralstepstoset
upanFTPserver.
Step 1. Createamain‐releasedirectoryontheFTPservertostoretheHN4000releases.For
example,HN4000_Releases.
Step 2. Createasubdirectoryforeachrelease.Forexample,HN4000_101504,
HN4000_102304,etc.
Step 3. ObtainfromtheNOCtheloginnameandpasswordfortheFTPserver.
Step
4. Copytheentirecontentsofthereleasesoftwareintoanappropriatelynamedsubdi‐
rectoryinthemainreleasedirectoryontheFTPserver.
Step 5. IftheHN4000switch’ssystemsoftwarewillbeinstalledmanuallybyCraftpersonnel,
youmustprovidetheCraftwiththe:
❒ IPaddressoftheFTPserveronwhichtheHN4000systemsoftwareislocatedand
thepathnametothesubdirectorycontainingthesystem‐softwarerelease
❒ IPaddressandIPmaskfortheHN4000switch’smanagementport
❒ IPaddressoftheHN4000gateway

required to set up an FTP server or DHCP server.
