Introduction
This chapter introduces the HP 9000 D Class Enterprise Servers. The HP 9000 D Class
and R Class Enterprise Servers are self contained, floor-standing, or rack-mounted,
multi-user computers that use the HP-UX operating system.
While there are hardware and performance differences between each model type, the
basic hardware installation and system administration tasks are the same for each of
these computers. The Hardware address paths for Core I/O, external I/O and internal
devices is different between the D2xx and D3xx/R3xx models. Refer to Chapter 2 for path
information. Table 1-1, Table 1-2 and Table 1-3 provides a list of the features of all
models. Features standard to all models are:
Integrated Floating Point Coprocessor
Optional Internal removable media devices - three maximum
Operating System:
HP-UX 10.01 or later for D200, Dx10, and Dx50
HP-UX 10.10 or later for Dx60
HP-UX 10.20 or later for Dx20, Dx30, Dx70, Dx80, Rx80 and Rx90
HP-UX10.20 or 11.0 or later for D390
Soft Power Off
These fully integrated computers may contain:
CD-ROM
DDS1, DDS2, or DDS3 Tape drives
QIC Tape drive
SE-SCSI Disk drives (Max 2) or
Fast Wide SCSI Hotswap Disk modules (2 max. for D2xx, 5 max. for D3xx)
Figure 1-1 shows the front view of the D Class computer. Figure 1-2 shows the rear view
of the D3xx Class computer. The same physical cabinet is used for both model types.
