CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the server unless all PCI slots have
either an expansion slot cover or an expansion board installed.
Prerequisites
Before you perform this procedure, make sure that you have the following items available:
The components included with the hardware option kit
T-30 Torx screwdriver
T-10 Torx screwdriver
If the total maximum power requirement of all installed accelerators/GPUs is higher than 25 W, the high-performance
fans and heatsinks are required.
Procedure
1.
Power down the server.
2. Remove all power:
a.
Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
b.
Disconnect each power cord from the server.
3.
Do one of the following:
Extend the server from the rack.
Remove the server from the rack.
4.
Remove the access panel.
5.
Remove the air bale.
6.
If you are installing a full-length accelerator, install the corresponding retention clip:
Install the clip that supports your configuration. Primary, secondary, and tertiary positions are shown.
7. If the total maximum power requirement of all installed accelerators is higher than 25 W, install the high-
performance fans and heatsinks to maintain proper system cooling:
a. Install high-performance fans.
b.
Install high-performance heatsinks.
