7.6Checking the riding sag of the shock absorber

Measure distance of rear wheel unloaded. ( p. 32)
With another person holding the motorcycle, the rider, wearing full protective cloth-
ing, sits on the saddle in a normal sitting position (feet on footrests) and bounce up
and down a few times until the rear suspension levels out.
The other person now has to measure the distance between the rear axle and a
fixed point.
Make a note of the value as measurement .

7.7Adjusting the spring preload of the shock absorber

The shock absorber is filled with high density nitrogen. Adhere to the description provided.

Before changing the spring preload, make a note of the present setting, e.g., by measuring the length of the spring.
Remove the shock absorber. ( p. 34)
After removing the shock absorber, clean it thoroughly.

Loosen screw .
Turn adjusting ring until the spring is no longer under tension.
Combination wrench (50329080000)
Hook wrench (T106S) ( p. 274)
Measure the overall spring length when not under tension.
Tighten the spring by turning adjusting ring to measurement .
Guideline
Spring preload 10 mm (0.39 in)

Depending on the static sag and/or the riding sag, it may be necessary to
increase or decrease the spring preload.
Tighten screw .
Guideline
Screw, shock absorber adjusting ring M6 5 Nm (3.7 lbf ft)
Install the shock absorber. ( p. 34)
