13.10Checking the spoke tension

Ensure that the spoke tension is correct.

A loose spoke can cause wheel imbalance, which leads to more loose spokes in a short time.
If the spokes are too tight, they can break due to local overload.
Check the spoke tension regularly, especially on a new motorcycle.

Quickly strike each spoke with the tip of a screwdriver.

The tone frequency depends on the length of the spoke and the spoke diam-
eter.
If you hear different tone frequencies from different spokes of equal length
and diameter, this is an indication of different spoke tensions.
You should hear a high note.
